NUMBER ONE JOURNAL
IS AN ANTHROPOLOGY
PUBLICATION THROUGH
THE PRISM OF CINEMA
& STORYTELLING
An intimate collection of conversations with the most independent thinking talents in the visual & performing arts industries.
NUMBER ONE poses
a fundamental question
With each new issue of the magazine, we aim to solve the most essential challenges we face in our society, by offering in-depth conversations with the artists whose work is focused on observing, dissecting and understanding the human condition.
Vol. I of NUMBER ONE
tackled the issue of Success,
“Is Success an Issue?”
To answer this question, we reached out to the "modern-day philosophers" that are putting their ideas into practice.
Of course we're talking about the actors, the film directors, the screenwriters, the content creators and the multidisciplinary artists that are reinventing & shaping our collective culture.
"THE MOST SURPRISING THING IS THAT THERE WEREN'T ANY COOKIE CUTTER ANSWERS. EVERYONE WAS SO CANDID, AS IF THEY'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS QUESTION FOREVER."
Vol. I of NUMBER ONE carried original interviews & portraits with an elusive cast of film talents
Contributors included Aubrey Plaza, Evan Rachel Wood, Julie Delpy, Kathryn Hahn, Rupert Friend, Andrea Riseborough, Grace Gummer, Jennifer Ehle, Constance Zimmer & among others.
Vol. II & III of NUMBER ONE
tackled the controversial issue of "Education"
These two issues encompassed the difficult period between 2020 & 2021, in which we decided to dig deeper than any other publication before, by extending the same topic across two volumes.
For these two volumes in particular, we gathered an array of contributors whose work thouches on the subject of Education.
"EVERYONE THINKS EDUCATION IS A SUCH COMPLEX ISSUE. IT'S NOT. JUST ASK YOUNG PEOPLE HOW THEY WANT THEIR FUTURE TO LOOK LIKE, AND BUILD THE SYSTEM AROUND THAT."
Selected List of Talent
Vol. II & III of Number One Journal include conversations with contemporary artist Leelee Kimmel, Sex Education’s star Asa Butterfield, film director Grant Sputore, creative director Ben Ditto, iconic actress and civil rights activist Emmanuelle Beart, Servant’s star Nell Tiger Free, prolific actress Katherine Waterston, recording artist Olivia Dean, and choreographer & performer Yoann Bourgeois, to name a few.
Eco-responsibility and
Craftsmanship
Number One Journal is printed according to demand in 100% recycled fine art paper, in order to cut down on unnecessary waste. We take an online-first approach to our distribution model, while
still maintaining a close net of points of sale, dedicated to the preservation of craftmanship in the independent publishing arts.
"WE WANT TO MAKE A LEGACY BOOK, THAT PERFORMING ARTS TALENT CAN LOOK BACK TO & FEEL PROUD TO HAVE BEEN A PART OF. "
